Fair Winds

I was inspired to paint Fair Winds by a comparison I commonly draw. On difficult days, I often compare life to what it would have been like during the Age of Sail. Eating hardtack, going weeks or even months without a bath, sleeping in a hammock under the constant rocking, climbing rigging all day, and dealing with infestations. Compared to these conditions, the tribulations of daily life seem almost trivial. The gold accents symbolize the stark contrast between the excitement of sea stories and the allure of recruiting campaigns compared to the reality of daily life aboard.
